The London Companies
After The Flight of the Earls in 1607 the Crown decided to plant the confiscated lands with English and Scottish Protestants. Lacking funds to complete the plan, King James I coerced the City of London to finance part of the venture.

Professor James Stevens Curl, Senior Research Fellow at Queen’s University Belfast, explores the history of the 12 London Companies which formed a body known as The Honourable The Irish Society to manage their involvement in the Plantation.
