Christopher Wren and St Paul's Cathedral

By Dr Anthony Geraghty

In 1668, Christopher Wren - still only in his thirties - was invited to submit proposals for a new St Paul's to replace the medieval cathedral destroyed in the Great Fire of London. It was the greatest building project of the age, taking a decade to design and 40 years to build. It survives as London's most iconic building.
