MAS
Records was formed by Kevyn Gammond and Kim Tanser from Kidderminster
College and has been evolving ever since.
Kim
Tanser, MAS Records Development Director, describes the role of
MAS Records:
"MAS
Records has been set up to provide a framework of expertise and
resources to support the development of music in our area.
"We
are in a fortunate position thanks to help from the Learning Skills
Council and Advantage West Midlands to release projects like this.
Here's
a brief outline of what has happened so far in the life of MAS Records.
2000
Priory
of Brion tour with Kevyn Gammond & Robert Plant.
Kevyn
Gammond developed the Music Industry Management course at Kidderminster
College, which spawned the MAS Records project.
2001
Kevyn
Gammond and Kim Tanser form MAS Records, with Robert Plant as patron.
This
initiative is a community label that has been set up to provide
a framework of expertise and resources to support the development
of music in this region.
The
label is a joint project supported by Kidderminster College in conjunction
with students on the Music Industry Management course.
2002
First
CD release from MAS Records, featuring Crux South, Weak13, King
Rich, B-Movie Heroes, the first official release from the Priory
of Brion, Kopna Kopna, and Cantaloop.
MAS
were fortunate to receive funding from the Learning Skills Council
and Advantage West Midlands to help nurture young talent in the
West Midlands.
2003
Second
CD release, featuring The Boswells, Void, Girls Love Ponies, Groove
Sadistic, Weak13, Oak, Johnny Volcano, Episonic, Neutron Tears,
King Rich, Cantaloop, MC Liter/New Vibe, Melo DJ, White Funeral
Façade and Tobacco Suntan.
The
official MAS Records website was launched, (www.mightyatomsmasher.com).
All
MAS Records CDs are available at all good independent record shops
or by mail order via the official website.
MAS Records
in association with the Clifford T. Ward Foundation launched a songwriting
competition to outline and support and nurture new songwriters.
2004
MAS
are currently working towards developing a premier live music performance
venue to include recording and rehearsal facilities for artists
in the Midlands.
