FACTS

Steve Hackett has earned the reputation of being one of Britain's finest composers and guitarists. Peter Gabriel invited him to join Genesis in 1970 and his involvement led to 8 albums

His complex and distinctive playing contributed heavily to their early success, developing an elegance and sophistication which have become his trademark and he has since achieved consistent solo success internationally

Over that time Steve has discovered an equal talent for composing for the classical guitar

get in contact

Steve Hackett got first record contract in 1971 when Peter Gabriel rang him up and asked him to be the guitarist for Genesis.

BBC Hereford & Worcester's Andrew Marston spoke exclusively to Steve before his sell-out show at Worcester's Huntingdon Hall.

When asked about the solo successes of all the founder members of Genesis Steve said:

"I think there were just too many ideas to be kept under one saucepan, as it were, so it became a pressure cooker.

"Everyone's equally passionate about their own particular corner of activity, so that's why we're all still involved in music"

"I know that Genesis inspired a lot of young musicians because people still write to me and say that was the reason why they got into playing. I just count myself fortunate that I've been part of the soundtrack to someone's youth."

Speaking about the demands of a long tour Steve told Andrew:

"When you go through a tour, you get so exhausted.

"You get to the point where you don't really care any more and you step on stage and funny enough, that's the time that I think a band really starts playing very, very well."

"A band should really always be having fun together on stage, because if you're not you might as well give up."

Listen to Steve's 10 minute interview in full.
