Firefighters at the Fleece Inn

Fire has badly damaged the historic Fleece Inn at Bretforton, in Worcestershire. We have pictures of the clear up operation.

It's feared one of Worcestershire's most famous pubs could be beyond repair following a fire.

Flames ripped through the thatched roof of the the Fleece Inn in Bretforton near Evesham on Friday.

The pub is one of the oldest in the country, and at the height of the blaze there were six fire tenders at the scene.

Local people formed human chains in an attempt to rescue as much as they could from the building.

Vaughan Hulley from the Campaign for Real Ale organisation says despite the damage he still hopes the Inn has a future.

"It's just a case of waiting on the insurance assessors to decide.

"The walls are standing but whether they are safe is going to be the problem.

"But we're all keeping our fingers crossed in the hope that the Fleece will rise again."
