The
new flood defences at Bewdley have been put up for the first time.
You can see pictures of the high-tech solution that's supposed to
end the misery of flooding in the town. |

The Environment Agency hopes the new flood defences will cure the
perennial problem of flooding in Bewdley.
The new flood defences consist of metal shutters between concrete
posts that stand permanently along the riverside.
Water levels in the town are already very high and with rain continuing
to fall upstream there is a real danger that the river will burst
its banks.
There are concerns that the new barriers will simply to move the problem
of flooding further downstream.
The City of Worcester now has temporary defences that can be put up
at other flooding blackspots such as Hylton Road.
