My name
is Jo Grant and I come from Kidderminster, Worcestershire.
I completed an HND in Film-making (Performance and Production) in
June this year, which I hope will forward me into a career in Broadcast
Journalism.
My passion for media began at an early age, when I created magazines
and newspapers to sell to my family and put on regular plays with
my younger brother.
I also remember impersonating Jeremy Paxman, recording a rather grilling
interview with my Father.
Since completing my HND, I have gained some more experience in the
media industry by organising several placements for myself.
Earlier this year I spent two weeks at BBC in London on a CBBC programme.
I also visited a local T.V company for a couple of weeks and my most
recent experience has been
on Classic Hits radio.
Never too late
I entered Midlands Today's "Young Reporter of
the Year" competition quite near to the deadline and I never
dreamed I would reach the final five!
My chosen report was on the 52nd General Hospital and Army camp, which
was situated at Wolverley, near Kidderminster during the Second World
War.
My reason for choosing this topic was due to my intrigue about this
local story and the fact that people in the area are completely unaware
that this fascinating place ever existed.
It is also relevant to this time of year with Remembrance Day approaching.
I contacted Mike Webster, who is writing a book on the subject and
spent some time with him, researching for my 200 word competition
entry.
Mr Webster suffers from a chronic heart condition and will donate
all proceeds from his book to the British Heart Foundation.
When I found out that the report was going to be filmed, I visited
the site in Wolverley to make storyboards and a shooting script.
