Worcester Rowing Club will become a focal point for the sport in the West Midlands, following the weekend opening of the new Regional Rowing headquarters on the site of their former boathouse.

Sir Steve was also presented with a cheque for his Charitable Trust, after club members held a 24 hour sponsored row.

The first £1,500 raised went to the Charitable Trust, and any further money raised went to the clubs boat fund.

The Worcester Rowing Club Captain, Graham Henderson said the new regional headquarters means Worcester will become a focal point for the sport in this area.

Sir Steve also christened a new senior woman's rowing boat named after the late Alison Scaiff, who's husband is a keen member of the club.

Sir Steven Redgrave performed the opening ceremony, with the Malvern Hills District Brass Band performing a National Anthem especially for Sir Steven.
