The
exhibition will be at the Lickey Parish Church Hall from 10 - 4
pm.
The
society was originally formed on 13th November, 1982 at a general
meeting called with that objective in mind.
The
name of the society was agreed at that time,as was the frequency
of meetings.
The
recorded purpose of the society was as follows: The object of the
society shall be to encourage appreciation of art and art forms
and to further this knowledge by means of meetings, lectures, demonstrations,
exhibitions and kindred activities.
The
first meeting of Cofton Hackett Art Society took place on 8th January,
1983, when members were invited to take along up to three drawings
or paintings for appraisal.
The
first chairman was Brian Swingler.
The
society proved to be a popular club and many well known and talented
artists gave demonstrations.

Annual
outings were well supported for about three years but interest tailed
off after a time and outings were discontinued.
The
first annual exhibition took place on 2nd and 3rd of July, 1983,
when 80 paintings were exhibited.
The
society went from strength to strength, losing some members over
the years and gaining others.
At
the end of 2001, the decision was made to leave Cofton Village Hall,
relocate to Lickey Parish Hall and rename the group to Lickey Hills
Art Society.
Members
of 2002 who were members from the start of 1983 are Wyn Cowie, Cath
Elliott, Mavis Insull, Margaret Tench, Ursula Schirrmacher, Tina
Negus (left the district in July), Shirley and Geoffrey Harper,
Graham Wilson and Jean Wiseman.
Since
the move to Lickey Parish Hall, membership has increased and meetings
have been well attended, including a good number of visitors.
An interesting and varied programme has been arranged for 2003.
The
exhibition will be held on the 8th and 9th November between 10am
and 4pm on each day at Lickey Parish Church Hall.
