Get in The Big Picture

Your photo could be part of a world record attempt - but you'll have to hurry.

Eight giant billboards will be unveiled at city centre locations, including Worcester and Hereford, as part of an attempt to claim the record for the largest photo mosaic in the world.

The photographs, taken by local people from across the region, were submitted as part of the exciting new arts project, The Big Picture, and will be reproduced on huge 48 sheet billboards.

The local winners were:

  • Emily Callen from Worcester, for her photo of feeding swans.  Will be shown on a billboard in Pheasant Street, by the bus depot
  • Martyn Duggan for his image of Hereford City.  Will be shown on a billboard at Ledbury Road railway bridge in Hereford.

They were chosen from thousands of images sent in on Big Picture Day, and will front a publicity campaign, to encourage local people to be part of the project's ambitious record breaking attempt to create the largest photo montage in the world.

Kerry Endsor, Project Manager for The Big Picture, said: "The images capture a special or memorable moment in time for each of our winners.

"They include everything Hereford's skyline at dusk, to someone enjoying a day out with a grandchild in Telford.

"They really sum up what the Big Picture is all about, creating a unique snapshot of the region through the eyes of the people that live here."

June deadline

The billboard campaign marks the final countdown for The Big Picture to claim the World Record for the largest photo mosaic.

Over 105,000 images are needed by Monday 30 June to break the existing record, and you can submit your photos to the online gallery at www.inthebigpicture.co.uk.

Kerry Endsor said: "The Big Picture is a fantastic opportunity for local people to share their special photos, and claim this World Record for the West Midlands.

"We've been overwhelmed by the huge response that we've had from people across the region, and the fascinating images and stories that we've received to date.

"With one month to go we're on the final straight, and we are urging people to send us their photos throughout June, so that they can feature in the largest mosaic in the world: we can promise that the end result will be spectacular!"

The Big Picture's new text messaging service makes it even easier to send photos in an instant.

Text your pictures to 60300, and remember to include BIGPIC in the text of the message.

Digital images can be uploaded directly to www.inthebigpicture.co.uk and prints can be handed in at local Jessops stores, participating art galleries or sent to The Big Picture, FREEPOST BM2782, Birmingham, B18 6BR.
