Funky Junky Monkeys
The Malvern-based band who used to perform gigs in custom-made monkey costumes.
The Funky Junky Monkeys are a Malvern-based band with a reputation for live gigs and strange stage attire.
The band formed in 1999, and used to perform gigs in custom-made monkey costumes.
"The idea was to remain anonymous and for a while it worked," says front-man Ray Toland: "Then someone published our names on the internet - so we ditched the suits and made him join the band!"
Since 1999, the Monkeys have been playing gigs, festivals and parties.
One of their highlights was playing to a 2,000-strong crowd in Malvern's Priory Park as part of the Fringe May Day celebrations.
Singer and guitarist Ray Toland is currently writing a novel entitled 'Evolution: My Part In Its Downfall'.
It is rumoured that bass player Tuckerang Utang has taken to riding around on a miniature bicycle.
Lead guitarist Jed Bipod spends his spare time fashioning a canoe out of a large tree trunk in case the floods return - while Rob Makak, the drummer in now living in a tree, is eating only hazel nuts and figs!
You can listen to all the latest music from across the two counties on the Friday Session Introducing... every week from 7pm, on BBC Hereford & Worcester.
