The Swan Theatre in Worcester hosts the world premiere of a new play about Elgar, his relationship with his wife, and his struggle to be accepted by Edwardian society. The play runs from Tuesday 5 until Thursday 7 June.
Elgar
The part of Elgar is played by Gerald Harper, and the new play, by Peter Sutton, has been written to mark the 150th Anniversary of Elgar's birth.
It poses a number of questions about the great composer: How did the son of a local piano-tuner come to marry the daughter of a Major General? How did he cope with her longing for fashionable society? How did she respond to his hankering after a country life? Did she sacrifice her own ambitions? Who was the other Alice in his life? And what was really the 'enigma' in his Enigma Variations?
Tickets are £13.50, and the Box Office number is 01905 611 427.
