Red = Parliamentary forces. Strength around 30,000
1 = Oliver Cromwell.
2 = Charles II was to watch the battle unfolding from the top of the tower of Worcester cathedral.
3 = Fort Royal.
4 = Bridges of Boats over the Rivers Severn and Teme.
5 = Colonel Charles Fleetwood.
6 = General Richard Deane.
7 = Major General Montgomery.
8 = David Leslie and Scots cavalry.
9 = Major General John Lambert.

At dawn on 3 September the Parliamentary forces made their first attacking move.

As the Scots held the bridge across the River Teme at Powick they planned to use two pontoon bridges made of boats - one across the Severn and one across the Teme, where the two rivers met.

These boats had to be dragged across stream and once these were in place Fleetwood began his attack against the Scots forces commanded by Montgomery.

General Richard Deane's attempts to cross the bridge at Powick were thwarted by troops under the command of Keith.

The fighting on the flat ground around the Powick meadows was very fierce, with musketmen and pikeman fighting at close quarters.

The Parliamentary forces were unable to break the Scottish lines.
