Twenty eight gardens in Fladbury will be open to the public on Saturday 8 July and Sunday 9 July, as part of their annual village walkabout and flower festival. Many stalls, including cake, jam, fair trade, plants, white elephant and book stalls will accompany the "This Is Britain" floral display in the village church. Fladbury Mill, which powered the first electric street lighting, will also be open exhibiting static engines. Visitors will also be able to cross the River Avon via the old wire ferry. Entrance for adults is £4, free for children under the age of 15. There is also free parking and transport to the village centre.

The event began in 1970 to pay for the restoration of the east window in St John the Baptist church. Twenty six years later, the event is still going strong, with brass and jazz bands, Morris and Clog dancers, clowns, stilt walkers, jugglers and a fun run taking place over the weekend. Walkabout Chairman, Andy Parsloe says: "We are delighted that in recent years we have seen the return of River Avon boat trips to the festivities, complementing the shirehorse drawn cart rides and display of vintage cars." |
