They play their league matches in Division 2 of the Central Conference and the Arrows' Chairman, Chris Halford admits the positive start has exceeded even his expectations: "It's been a great start; basically, it's been about as good as we could have hoped for. "We thought we would probably have a chance of beating Plymouth and Chester in the last two games, but the win at Oxford on the opening day of the season was a real surprise."

The win at Oxford was all the more impressive as the Saints won the South West conference last season and so were fully expected to be very tough opposition for the Arrows' first game of the season A look at the Arrows' schedule would tell you that it's very important to get off to a good start; in football, if you lose the first two or three matches then there is every chance you can make up lost ground. As Chris Halford explains, such is the make up of the Central Conference that every game is crucial if a club wants to progress to the latter stages of the season: "We play a ten-game regular season and the top two teams in each division go through to a knock out, with the final at the Don Valley Stadium in Sheffield. "It's a bit like the American National Football League with the regular season and play-offs, culminating in the Superbowl, so it's the same type of approach." Head Coach, Ian Hill has returned to the Arrows after a year off and has put together a strong and experienced coaching staff which it is hoped will pay dividends this season. According to the club, the general feeling is that the squad this year is more talented than in 2005 and team spirit heading into the new season was very high. This has clearly paid dividends; Redditch know that if they can maintain this sort of form over the coming weeks then they should extend their season into the play-offs. This would represent a dramatic turn round in fortunes after what was a disappointing 2005. Home matches are played at Kings Norton Rugby Club, near Hopwood just off the M 42, and the Arrows are clearly working hard to build up a solid fan base. | "It's been a great start; basically, it's been about as good as we could have hoped for. Club Chairman Chris Halford says this is a chance to take a look at a sport that is a bit different, and it's not going to cost you a penny: "Everybody's welcome and it's free admission; it's the best show in town for nothing! "It depends on the weather, but we can get up to 200 people on a good day; people come along and enjoy it. "The bar's open all afternoon and there's hot dogs and burgers on sale, so you won't get anything better for your money!" |
