The lovely red sandstone Priory is all that remains of the 12th century Benedictine monastery. The monastery vanished during Henry VIII's reign and the Priory is only part of what was once a much bigger church within a vast set of buildings.
The Priory as we see it today dates from a Victorian restoration under Sir Gilbert Scott.
