Elvis meets Eve in Droitwich

A lifesize portrait sculpture of Elvis Presley will be on display in Droitwich Library during October.

At The Gallery in Droitwich Library during October, a lifesize portrait sculpture of Elvis Presley, titled ‘Icon 1956’ is on display by award winning sculptor Caro Sweet:

"My challenge was to capture Elvis' sensitivity, as well as his natural charisma, as he burst onto the music scene as a young man.

"Understanding his character came through working with the forms of his head and observing his posture.

"Portrait sculpture in bronze is a wonderful and unique way of capturing the qualities of a loved one, or honouring a respected colleague."

You will also have a rare opportunity to see on display a four-feet high head of 'Eve'.

The sculpture, an artist’s proof cast in cement and fibreglass destined for a plinth in the landscape, will subsequently be cast in bronze as a limited edition.

"There is something about a big head in the landscape," says Caro, "how we see it and the impact it has on our outlook in life.

"Somehow it connects us with ourselves and our environment and creates possibilities in our minds."

'Eve' forms part of Caro's 'Heads and Bodies' exhibition and is a collection of recent sculpture and portrait sculpture complemented by vibrant drawings and prints, all celebrating the human figure.

Caro’s exhibition can be viewed between the 1st and 29th October 2005, in Droitwich library during the usual opening hours.

Caro, who trained professionally at The Frink School of Figurative Sculpture in Staffordshire, says "My inspiration comes from the amazing potential we all have as human beings and the ways in which we communicate through our physical forms.

"I aim to produce vital yet sensitive work that provides pleasure and inspiration that persists over time, and for generations to come."
