Fed up of the boring, bland multiplex cinemas - well how about a film screening with a difference?

On Thursday 15th September, Hereford based Mash Cinema are holding a film screening on top of Widemarsh Street multi-storey car park in the city centre, as part of H.Art Week.

Cinema with a difference

Mash Cinema promotes the principle that cinema does not simply have to be about rows of chairs and a big screen. It's about bringing films, music and art together in an informal setting and exposing audiences to things they would otherwise not have access to.

They are working in partnership with Public Art Route, who are installing artworks around the theme of car culture.

The great outdoors

When planning this ambitious event, Mash Cinema creator Dan Brown drew his inspiration from across the Atlantic:

"I was inspired by a organisation from New York who run an evening called 'Roof Top Films' a friend showed me their website, and I loved the idea of showing films outdoors, and being able to see the city skyline and the sunsetting as the backdrop."

As well as the films, there will also be two music performances, one percussive and one acoustic, as well as other performance art elements.

The event is free, but the organisers will be asking for donations to help cover the costs of staging such an ambitious screening.

Wrap up warm!

However, an open air screening always brings the risk of inclement weather and Dan advises people to come prepared:

"We will be based on the top floor unless its pouring with rain or heavy winds, then we will be hiding one floor down... I advise people to bring a cushion and warm clothes!"
