A ska punk band from Hereford with wide ranging influences and a packed schedule of gigs.
A early version of Whippy Jim was beginning to take shape mid 2002, with Tom W, Matt and Alex practicing in Alex's garage. At this point in time there seemed to be an apparent lack of free drummers in Hereford, which or course came as a problem. But as luck would have it, in early February 2003, Tom Potts was discovered and Whippy Jim was finally formed.
Described by friends as a ska punk band there music tastes range from old school punk, punk rock, ska, reggae, emo and metal (in the case of Alex).Whippy Jim take have strong influences from bands such as Rancid, NOFX, Sublime, Billy Bragg, Weezer, Green Day and Desmond Dekker.
Playing music, is what these four guys were meant to do, and it's exactly what they are doing.
Unfortunately, Whippy Jim departed company in 2005 after their members finished college.
You can listen to all the latest music from across the two counties on the Friday Session, every week from 7pm, on BBC Hereford & Worcester.
