Reg Moule, answering gardening questions
Meet Reg Moule
All you wanted to know about BBC Hereford and Worcester's gardening guru...
Reg comes from a family that has been involved in horticulture for several generations, and before this they were all farmers, back to the 1740’s.
His formal training took place over a five-year period at Pershore College of Horticulture.
Since leaving there in 1972 he has worked in the nursery and garden centre business, spending 25 years as a garden centre manager.
During this time Reg has been a regular speaker at horticultural societies and a contributor to various gardening magazines, as well as appearing on scores of gardeners’ questions panels at shows all over England.
For the last 17 years he has broadcast regularly on many BBC local radio stations, and he now presents a weekly gardening programme on BBC Hereford and Worcester each Saturday morning, between 9 and 11, with co-presenter Mike George.
He also became one of the few people to do live gardening phone-in programmes on national radio, when he spent two years as the resident gardening expert on Radio 2’s Debbie Thrower programme.
Reg was also one of the regular presenters on 'Gardener’s Diary' which was one of the longest running, continuous gardening series, giving hands-on tips and advice for over seven years, on ITV and satellite channels.
His abilities as a gardening communicator have been recognised by the Garden Writers' Guild, who, over recent years, have presented him with 5 Awards - considered the Oscars for gardening broadcasting.
Also, the Royal Horticultural Society Director of Shows, Stephen Bennett, presented Reg with the Local Radio Gardening Expert of the Year Award at the 2000 Chelsea Flower Show.
Reg also records a monthly gardening advice column for talking newspapers for the blind, and he is employed as a freelance gardening advisor by the Royal Horticultural Society.
He joined Hurrans Garden Centres in 1999, to be their 'Garden-medic', advising customers at all of their seven branches, as well as on the Internet.
In August 2007, Reg left his advisory role at Hurrans and returned to coupling his advisory skills with practical retail nursery management, joining David's Nurseries at Martin Hussingtree, between Worcester and Droitwich.
Reg says: "It's great to be back working at a plant based business where we specialise in having a wide and diverse range of quality plants, along with all the sundry items required to grow them well."
Reg also provides a similar service on BBC local radio web sites, as well as writing regular advice columns for the BBC 1 gardening web site.
