Wow. You're halfway through your pregnancy. Congratulations. Your baby now weighs in at about 400 grams and is around 25 centimetres long. Muscular development is rapid now and there's a lot of amniotic fluid and space to move around - it can feel like your baby's doing acrobatics in there!
Your baby has developed its own 'waterproofing' with a gooey white coating called vernix caseosa. This covers your baby's entire body to protect its skin while its swimming in the amniotic fluid. Some babies are still covered with the white goo when they're born. But they're still gorgeous!

As your womb grows upwards and outwards, your tummy button may flatten out, or even pop out (it depends on which sort of tummy button you have!). If you're feeling more breathless after you've climbed the stairs, don't worry, this is completely normal. Your womb is starting to push up against your diaphragm, leaving less space for your lungs. Your baby should be pretty active by now. Can you pinpoint where the movements are yet - top, middle or bottom? You could try to work out if it's a hand or foot you're feeling. Babies move around a lot at this time, and they don't settle head down (the usual position for birth) for some time yet. Enjoy your baby's energy!
Your baby: yummy in your tummy... your baby can taste flavours of the foods you eat when it swallows the amniotic fluid. So try not to limit your diet more than you have to in pregnancy. By eating a variety of foods, you'll help ready your baby's taste buds. So when your baby moves onto solid foods (at around 6 months), they'll be more receptive to a greater range of tastes.
