Your baby is experiencing a very busy time! The heart is really taking shape, along with the first blood vessels of the circulation system. Your baby's tooth buds, palate and tongue are forming too, while the ears continue to develop and eyelids are starting to cover your baby's eyes. This early period of development is very important as the basic structure of the body and all the organs are formed in the first 12 weeks. Remember that some drugs/medications could be harmful, so always check with your doctor or pharmacist if you're in any doubt.

You're officially six weeks pregnant! Who have you told? (Don't worry; you don't need to tell your employer yet.) You may have been feeling sick. Nausea and vomiting are symptoms of early pregnancy - but remember it's usually temporary (and harmless). Need to pee more? It's not surprising, as this is one of the effects of pregnancy hormones. Feeling tearful or irritable? Mood swings can be a pain in pregnancy - ask your partner! These mood swings could be down to your hormones, or anxiety at the prospect of giving birth. Talk to your partner or your doctor. In fact, now is a good time to see your doctor to sign up for antenatal care. Or if you prefer, you could call a community midwife and arrange your care with her instead?
Pregnancy tips: eating ginger can help ease nausea in pregnancy - a great excuse to keep a packet of ginger biscuits by your bed! Nibble a biscuit (or two) before you get up in the morning for nausea relief. It may take a few days to have an effect - so stick with it.
