Nick Girdler

Regional radio legend Nick Girdler is back behind a microphone for a brand new Sunday morning show with BBC Radio Solent.

From Sunday 14 June, Nick will be bringing listeners a taste of all that's great and good across Hampshire, Dorset and the Isle of Wight, wrapped up in his own unique style of broadcasting.

The programme includes plenty of new features such as The Girdler Gauge, where Nick goes in search of the best of the South – with listeners' favourite views, eateries, and places to visit.

Nick will still be testing the old grey matter with topical discussion and the odd brain teaser.  And he'll be helping you walk off the Sunday lunch by suggesting a great walk route each week.

There's also your chance to say 'thank you' to someone you work with during the week. Is there someone in your office, factory, school or other workplace who always goes the extra mile to help out and who their colleagues think are just great?

Nick is looking for your workplace hero to send a Girdlergram to.  He'll dispatch Producer Becs Parker to surprise them with a little something during the week. One workplace hero was Lisa from CE Evans & Son in Alresford who was nominated by her boss Alan. Legend

Nick broadcast on BBC Radio Solent for 35 years, before formally hanging up his head phones in 2006.

Hero

Do you know a Workplace Hero like Lisa?

During his three and half decades of radio programmes he led the famous 'Albert's Gang', was the Professor of the University of the Shed and broke the UK record for broadcasting underwater.

But, three years on, he is now relishing his return:

"Broadcasting never leaves your blood, especially after all the time I've spent doing it," he said. "I know and love the Solent patch and the station's army of loyal listeners. I can't wait to get back on the air".
