Pompey fans in good voice

Sing up Pompey!

Pompey fans were certainly in good voice ahead of the Cup Final on 17 May. Thousands of fans were singing in the stands at Wembley, but some went the extra mile and penned their own Pompey cup songs.

Have a listen to the songs below.  There's singer-songwriter Shep Woolley's Pompey Rock and We're on our Way which was written by Paul Diprose after listening to the semi-final victory.

Another lifelong Pompey fan, Vernon D'Costa wrote the music and lyrics for We'll win the Cup which was recorded with Sam McCarthy on lead vocals.  He even managed to re-record it as  'We won the Cup' within hours of the final whistle.

Meanwhile, BBC Radio Solent's Steve Harris had the idea to team up with punk band Sham 69 to re-write and re-record Hurry up Harry especially for the Cup Final.

On the other end of the musical spectrum, the Pompey Anorak Brigade website turned to the Solent Male Voice Choir and Chichester City Brass Band for a new charity version of the FA Cup hymn Abide with Me - Abide Pompey.
