Ten year's ago, BBC South's Transport Correspondent, Paul Clifton made a half hour documentary for Southern Eye on the QE2 as she turned 30 and came home for a refit. Back then, the QE2 was the only liner left with Southampton stamped on her stern and was fighting for survival against younger, newer cruise ships. Although cruising was popular, there were just three cruise ships based in the city, the QE2, Oriana and the Canberra. Today the port is widely recognised as the capital of the country's cruise industry, welcoming around 700,000 passengers each year. last updated: 19/11/2008 at 16:09 SEE ALSOYou are in: Hampshire > History > Local History > QE2 > The Queen of the Sea |
