The Roadshow in Sandown
Life's a beach
We packed our suncream and swimwear and headed over to the Isle of Wight for a day on the beach. Have a look to see what the team got up to...
We often take a lot of things for granted when we go on holiday, but there is always somebody (or more often a team of people) who work hard behind the scenes to make sure everything works the way it should. Matthew Chatfield is the Parks and Countryside Manager for the Isle of Wight which means that he looks after parks and beaches, lifeguards, etc. He came on board the Roadshow and told us a little about the things he's involved with on the Island.
Matt goes for a quick paddle in Sandown
Sandown is well known for it's long sandy beach, and has been awarded a Blue Flag for the quality of the beach and its facilities. One group of people work hard through the summer to keep bathers safe in Sandown - the Lifeguards. Matt went over the the lifeguard hut live during Charlie Crocker's afternoon show...
The Island is also a big attraction for fossil-hunters searching for signs of creatures that lived millions of years ago. Steve Hutt is the Chief Palentologist at Dinosaur Isle in Sandown. - which is a major tourist attraction a little further along the front in Sandown. There have been several exciting finds by tourists and residents, most recently a pterosaur at Compton Bay.
