Lucy's omelette challenge

How do you make omelette-making egg-citing? Time yourself of course! When Lucy Warhurst was out with the BBC Radio Solent Summer Roadshow at Gunwharf Quays in Portsmouth we challenged her to make a perfect omelette in just over a minute...

However, she would not be up against any old opponent - she met up with Andy Taylor who is the current speedy-omelette champion out of all the chefs in Gunwharf.

"Always season as you're whisking..."

Andy Taylor's top omelette tip

It all started well as Lucy learnt how to crack an egg with one hand, but when time was against her she was crushing them (shell and all) straight into the pan and dropping them onto her feet.

Lucy lost her way as time was ticking, and the sneaky Andy stole her ingredients. Despite being heavy-handed with the salt and not minding a bit of shell in her dish, Lucy's omelette ended up looking the best as Andy's final flip onto the plate was a disaster. He claimed afterwards that Lucy's long legs and good looks distracted him - any excuse!

Lucy's looked the best, Andy's tasted the best, together they would make a good team in the kitchen (if you don't mind some shell!).

Tune in to Lucy Warhurst every Saturday morning from 5-7am on BBC Radio Solent.
