Despite a weather forecast threatening monsoon-like conditions, the crowds turned out for this year's Mela at Hoglands Park in Southampton The festival is now firmly on the calendar as one of Southampton's main annual cultural events and this years event offered more entertainment, music and stalls than ever. The performance tent featured local schools including Bitterne Park and Mount Pleasant whose specially choreographed Bollywood routines received rave applause. ![]() Local school kids perform The festival's main stage hosted a wide variety of music including South Asian classical, folk, Qawwali, Asian fusion and Bhangra. Meanwhile the Indian karoake and martial arts displays continues outside whatever the weather. The crowds also took in the array of music and dance demonstrations and workshops in the activities tent as well as arts and crafts, beauty and henna hand tattoos. And of course, the air was thick with the aromas from the amazing selection of Asian food stalls which spice up the Mela Festival each year.
