Dee and Rhys' job swap

Earlier this year, Dee Caffari became the first woman to circumnavigate the globe the 'wrong way' and Rhys Jones became the youngest person to climb the highest peak on each continent - now they've teamed up to teach each other their skills.

Dee Caffari from Gosport and Rhys Jones from the New Forest achieved their record breaking feats within a few days of each other in May.  They met up on BBC Radio Solent's Julian Clegg programme and set each other a 'job swap' challenge - Dee would learn climbing skills and in turn, pass on some tips to Rhys if he took up sailing.

The two adrenalin junkies first tried the 13 metre-high climbing wall at Calshot where Rhys trained for his ascent of Everest.

Rhys' verdict of Dee's efforts?: "She kept going and the balance was good... that's important so you don't get tired too quickly."

Dee seemed satisfied with her achievement: "I was told to stop talking and concentrate!  I did what I was told and got straight to the top!"

The tables were turned when Rhys swapped his mountaineering ropes for mast ropes and headed out onto the water. Dee allowed him to skipper her yacht for a day during sailing on the Solent.

It was only the second time that Rhys had been sailing but his sense of adventure helped him through, according to Dee: "When you are suddenly put in charge of a boat, you have to have that air of confidence so that everyone believes you - he's doing a really good job."

It was good training for Rhys who is taking part in the Round Britain and Ireland Yacht Race.  He is currently on board the yacht, 'needasponsor.co.uk' skippered by top offshore sailor Phil Sharp.

Having started at Cowes, the 1,789 mile race is taking Rhys and the rest of the crew around the British Isles, tackling harsh conditions in the North Atlantic, around the Scottish Isles and the North Sea.
