Southampton's Ocean Village was rammed with well-wishers on Sunday morning to welcome Dee home after her grueling 29,297 mile adventure around the globe. As the crowd got the first glimpse of the yacht's mast heading into the marina, the cheering began and banners were held aloft. Standing on the bow of the boat, Dee came into view, arms outstretched waving two flares. As she neared the berth two giant cannons fired confetti into the air and she was sprayed with champagne. Once Aviva was tied to the pontoon, Dee's mum Barbara stepped onboard to congratulate her. Dee was then greeted by HRH The Princess Royal who spent a few minutes chatting to Dee about the voyage before heading down below for a guided tour. Dee was then congratulated by Sir Chay Blyth who was the first yachtsman to complete the voyage in 1971. The completed voyage makes Dee the first woman to sail around the world non-stop against the prevailing winds and currents. |
