Cherie Flynn

Cherie and Terry Flynn

The father and daughter duo come from the Portsmouth area and together they play a wide range of musical genres such as jazz, rock, funk, Latin and ballads.

Band Profile

Band members: Cherie Flynn (vocals/flute/keyboards/guitar) and Terry Flynn (keyboards/flute)

Where are you from? Just outside Portsmouth

Describe your music: Eclectic - from dance to jazz, rock to chillout.  We vary the style depending on the venue and audience.  When we play live we mainly play covers but our recorded work includes many of Cherie's owns songs.

When did the band form? 1996

How did the band get its name? You'll have to ask our parents how we got our names!

Musical influences: Cherie's: a strange mixture - Herbie Hancock, Evanescence, Bjork, Maynard Ferguson Big Band, Clannad, George Michael, Goldfrapp, Matt Bianco, Gloria Estefan, Ian Van Dahl ....  and far too many more to mention. Terry's: Frank Sinatra, George Shearing , Earth Wind and Fire, The modern jazz quartet and Errol Garner.

The band's most memorable gig: Terry's: New Years Eve 2004. Cherie's: a party for a large group of modern jive dancers.  Cherie's main hobby is modern jive dancing so she knew most of the audience and had a chance to jive while singing

Favourite song to play live: Cherie's: "With You I'm Born Again", "Toxic", and "Orange Coloured Sky". Terry's: "East of the Sun", "Girl from Ipanema" and "Manha de Carnival"

Interesting band facts: Terry started playing gigs when he was 15 years old and by the time he was 18 was performing in holiday camps.   Then in the 60’s he backed many jazz stars at The Portsmouth Jazz Club. In the 60's and 70's Terry played in bands which had to back many famous acts, such as:  Roy Castle, John Pertwee, and Tom O'Conner.

Cherie has been writing songs since the age of 7.  Her writing covers various genres from dance to jazz, rock to chillout. During her teens Cherie played flute at music festivals and concerts, as a member of a Classical / Baroque ensemble, and The Gosport Orchestral Society.  In contrast, she currently sings; plays flute, keyboards and guitar in Jazz and Pop groups.
