Guidance

Mobile Devices

Introduction

This advice note supplements the guidance laid out in Section 15 Interacting with our Audiences.

Programme makers are exploring new creative ways of using mobile devices to enhance interactivity in programmes. These are the first BBC guidelines for this area. They currently concentrate on SMS, however when updated they will include sections on MMS, video clips, mobiles as a newsgathering resource and specific advice for material on mobile devices aimed at children. Text messaging/SMS/MMS/downloads etc. are part of a rapidly evolving technology. There are many creative possibilities and new editorial issues may arise. Therefore all new editorial proposals involving content on mobile devices must be referred to Editorial Policy (Senior Advisers Natalie Christian ext. 81810 and Julian Coles ext. 81809.
