Wiring in the Town Church

An example of some of the old wiring

Town Church gets rewired

After Christmas 2008 Guernsey's Town Church will be having a full electrical overhaul.

Ahead of the re-wiring Cannon Paul Mellor, Dean of Guernsey, described the church electrics as an "awful, awful mess" and said that the consultant they brought in to inspect the building said the he had "never seen so much wire doing so little so dangerously".

Town Church wiring

Anoth example of some of bad wiring in the church

Over the first 20 weeks of 2009 the church will be totally rewired and relamped so people "will be able to see the building as it was designed to be seen".

This will mean that the stained glass windows will also be more visible which is very important to the church as they tell the story of St Peter.

Cannon Mellor said that they hope to keep the church active by having a perspex porch inside the main entrance where people can still go for "a quiet minute and a quiet prayer".

While the work is going on the church will be out of action and so the regular services will be held at Notre Dame.

After the work is completed the church will be lit by a professional lighting team which will highlight the church's architecture.
