Having become famous throughout the world for his clematis, Raymond Evison won his first writing award in 2008 and spoke about his life as a grower.
Raymond has been involved in growing plants and flowers for more than 25 years and started growing in Guernsey in 1985 after starting his business in Shropshire.
He chose Guernsey because of its warmer climate (than the UK) and better light levels which he said are "20% lighter than the south of England".

Raymond travels the world promoting his business and Guernsey completing tours of the UK and USA in 2008. He said that the travel is tiring and when he sees the rocks around Hanois "I really do feel I'm home".
In November 2008 Raymond was awarded the Garden Media Guild award for Reference Book Of The Year. He said he wrote the book long hand and that the finished product "was a team effort".
As well as growing clematis Raymond said he enjoys spending time looking after his fields with traditional farming equipment like hooks and scythes as well as playing hockey - being a former county level player.
