Tom Le Pelley
Tom Le Pelley is a candidate standing for election in the Castel parish.
Hello, my name is Tom Le Pelley. I have served as a Castel Deputy for the last eight years.
I thank the electors of the parish for their support in the past and ask them, together with those who have taken the trouble to sign up for this Election, to vote me back as one of their People’s Deputies in 2008.
If elected, I pledge to continue to attend the Castel Deputies Surgeries which are held at the Castel Douzaine Rooms each Saturday prior to the Monthly States of Deliberation – and urge more parishioners to pop in between 10 and noon to air their views on matters in the Billet or to unburden more personal and parish concerns.
In my first Term I served on the Agriculture and Countryside Board, Traffic Committee and Water Board. After the changes in 2004 I missed getting on to the Environment Department by the narrowest of margins but was pleased to gain a place with the Public Services where I am now Deputy Minister.
I was delighted to hear, a year ago, that we were taking over the responsibilities of the Waste Disposal Authority from Environment as this has been one of my special interests and I knew that much more could be done to recycle tonnages away from Mont Cuet.
I have also served on the Legislation Select Committee and as Vice Chairman of the Parochial Ecclesiastical Rates Revue Committee.
In the next four years I hope to see a more fitting Waste Plant up and running at Longue Hougue with an ability to deal with sewage solids from a nearby Treatment Works, a Business Park at St. Andrews Reservoir to encourage small clean industries – and an airport runway fit for our future air links to International Hub Terminals.
