Where does the Wye begin?
The River Wye begins as a mere trickle over 2000 ft up Plynlimon mountain in mid-Wales.
Nick Crane tracks down the source, and begins to follow its steep descent. From here, the river runs 154 miles to the sea, through five counties, the most spectacular gorge in Britain, countless rapids and a huge tidal surge.
