A second generation success story, Babar is a source of great pride to his Pakistani-born parents who settled in Gloucester.

Babar Vaqas studied medicine at Oxford University

Babar Vaqas has completed a degree in medicine at Oxford University.

A pupil of Sir Thomas Rich's School in Gloucester, he got off to a good start educationally by gaining an amazing ten A* grades in his GCSEs - the highest exam score ever attained there according to the headmaster Mr Ian Kelly.

Babar, from Gloucester, was born in Britain and follows in the footsteps of his Pakistani-born parents, both of whom studied degrees taken in their native land.

His mother, Nasreen Akhtar, is senior librarian with Gloucestershire County Council and his father, Munawar Hussain, holds a senior post with Bristol City Council.

He worked in New York and China after winning a study award from the British Medical Council before taking up a position at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.
