University of Gloucestershire's Freshers Fayre offered students
an array of societies to join, employers to meet and free stuff
of the event's three days was dedicated to a different aspect of
the student experience - sadly we missed the freebies of the commercial
day but made it along for the Sports And Societies Fayre.
the more traditional pursuits - football, hockey et al - the event
showcased a wide range of specialist interests.
for members were the Sci-Fi and Fantasy Society, the Kendo Society
and the Pro Wrestling Society.

help the freshers settle into campus life, the University of Gloucestershire
Student Union has recruited around 60 second and third year students.
by their bright yellow t-shirts, these indivuals are part of The
BIG Step, an initiative run by the university to help new students
cope with this major life change.
Step volunteers provide information desks at each site and a range
of peer support, information and games.

volunteers meet, greet and help students settle into their new life,
and provide a friendly and reassuring welcome to the University.
taking part in the scheme undergoes training to provide skills that
will enable them to be confident in providing advice and assistance.
sharing their experiences of University life, the BIG Steppers have
the chance to give something back, and that's a good feeling."
