Most people find exams stressful and a right royal pain in the behind.

But whether you are taking important exams like GCSE's or A-Levels or end of year exams - don't let them stress you out.

Everyone handles the pressure differently and it's natural to feel some exam nerves prior to sitting them.

However, getting excessively nervous is counterproductive, can lead to panic and prevent the brain from thinking clearly and that's no good for anybody.

Exam pressure can cause a variety of problems including loss of sleep, binge drinking and headaches.

So if you're starting to worry or experiencing any of the above, then sit down, take a deep breath and check out our useful exam stress busting guide.

Stress busting tips
Don't panic and don't be too hard on yourself. You can only do your best.
Keep things in perspective. The exams might seem like the most crucial thing right now, but in the grander scheme of things they are only a small part.
Organise a revision timetable - and start planning well before the exams begin.

Prepare books, notes and essays with summary notes, headings, highlighting and revision cards.

Ask for help if there are things you don't understand. There's no point struggling over something for hours alone.
If you're feeling stressed out, talk to someone. It helps!
Take regular breaks. Go outside and get some fresh air - it works wonders.

Don't cram all night before an exam.

Stay away from excessive coffee, tea and fizzy drinks; the caffeine will 'hype' you and make you think less clearly.
Get enough sleep, as a lack of it can make worrying worse.

Once the exam ordeal is over, don't spend endless time criticising yourself for where you think you went wrong.

Instead pat yourself on the back for the things you did right, and learn from any mistakes you think you made.

And remember - there is a life beyond revision and exams!
