Trish Campbell

This talented band of musicians and singers - the Jolly Rogues - come from Tewksbury, Massachusetts and are taking their namesake town by storm.

Their repertoire consists of 18th and 19th century American drinking songs, romantic ballads, sea shanties, children's ditties, songs of revolt to music of the underground railroad and the Civil War.

All for Me Grog

Musicians playing guitars and drum

The Rogues' songs include "Lizzie Lindsay", "Captain Kidd", "All for Me Grog", "Yankee Doodle", "Star of the County Down", "The Parting Glass", "Rattlin Bog" and "Boston Harbor Shanty".

They've already appeared at Carrant Brooke Junior School in Northway, on the streets of Tewkesbury and at the BBC Radio Gloucestershire studios where they played live on Trish Campbell's Afternoon Show.

Delight

Musician playing banjo

Trish said, "They delight everyone in earshot with their authentic instruments.

"Even though this is radio it didn't stop them turning up in frilly collars, 'kerchiefs, breeches, stockings and buckled shoes".

Tewkesbury Battlefield Society

The Rogues are Jim Murray, Al Hicks, Paul Harty and Mike Ryan, and they're in Gloucestershire to lend their support to the Tewkesbury Battlefield Society, helping raise funds for the organisation.

Musician playing mandolin

Tewkesbury Town Crier, Mike Kean-Price, is playing host to the Rogues on their visit to England.

"They are a sight - and a sound - to behold," he said.

Living history

"These guys put the 'story' into living history and the public reaction has been tremendous".

You can catch them as they musically turn the clock back on Saturday 3rd July at the Methodist Church Hall, The Cross in Tewkesbury at 7.30pm.
