Phoenix J has been placed as one of the "UK's Top Ten Original Artists" in the international competition.

She has just returned from massive music event SXSW in Austin, Texas, where fellow UK musicians such as Jamie Cullum performed.

But no sooner had she stepped off the plane than she was hard at work shoring up support for her entry in the "Discoveries" talent competition.

Catching up

Phoenix (a translation of her Chinese birth name, Hong) said, "I have a bit of catching up to do, but now I'm back I certainly intend to make up for lost time.

"I just hope we can see some numbers in support from the online audience...that will make the music tastemakers and gatekeepers in the media and music business really take notice."

Thrilled

Peter Martin

Phoenix's partner at their studio/record label Firebird, Peter Martin, said, "We are thrilled that she has been chosen.

"It's a rare honour, and a great opportunity."

He described her sound as "Kate Bush meets Annie Lennox with a dash of Tori Amos and Norah Jones, all sprinkled with her signature Eurasian Fusion sound."

Local

Peter and Phoenix are hoping that fans and friends from around Gloucestershire will help her win through to the next round - representing the country in Europe.

Said Peter, "It will ultimately mean so much to know that those are the ones whose votes really counted."

Technology

Phoenix hasn't been slow in embracing new technology to assist her music career.

She has created a website, www.phoenixj.com, which features mp3s, photos and a biography.
