Well
you don't often meet a man like Jayl. He's a big bloke with tatoos
and a skinhead - the kind of imposing guy you would cross the road
to avoid in case you upset him accidentally!
I've spent three years making two albums but Sweet Baby Shark
is possibly the most commercial thing I've written. But just
because it has wide appeal doesn't mean it doesn't have depth
and meaning.

However,
Jayl is a man of contradictions. Imposing, yet welcoming, aggressive-looking
yet fun, angry yet enthusiastic. But most of all he's excited about
music and where music in Gloucestershire is going.
Jayl
has been writing and producing his own music for years and the imminent
release of his new single Sweet Baby Shark has recently been taking
up most of his time.

"I've
spent three years making two albums," said Jayl. "But
Sweet Baby Shark is possibly the most commercial thing I've written.
But just because it has wide appeal doesn't mean it doesn't have
depth and meaning."
May
has proved to be a busy month for Jayl. He is shooting the video
for Sweet Baby Shark at Time nightclub on June 22 and he has been
working closely with many diverse artists to organise the event.
I grew up in a children's home and I can't abide to see cruelty
in any form. I believe in peace and a multi-cultural Britain.

"I
really believe in involving as many local people with this kind
of creativity as possible," he said. "There
will be some amazing dancers at Time including the brilliant Tahliah
and Sarah, who are the UK Youth Freestyle Duet Champions."
Rehearsals
have been taking place at Lansdown Studios in Cheltenham and Jayl
has been making sure all the right people come together on the day.

"The
event will be open to the public and doors will open at 12.30pm.
Entry is only £2 and the bars will be open as well so it will
be a very exciting day and we have a fantastic crew involved."
While
Jayl and I were chatting in a Gloucester cafe a Rasta guy walked
in and gave us a real 'double take' as Jayl's image shouts 'bovver
boy' to those who don't know him.
But
Jayl is inclusive and believes passionately in diversity and a multicultural
society.

| Jayl's
website is an "interactive minor miracle" |
"I
grew up in a children's home," he said, "and so I can't
abide to see cruelty in any form. I believe in peace and a multicultural
Britain. I love my country and I'm patriotic but I do get angry
about some things.
"Bands
like Slipknot and Limp Bizkit are just rebellious for the sake of
it. I don't feel that they genuinely want to change anything. Some
of these guys need to start thinking about what they're saying."
Jayl's
whole vibe, however doesn't feel angry at all. His motivation lies
in coaching and promoting new and existing talent in Gloucestershire.
He has been working with various vocalists who feature on his two
albums.
 |
| Talented
vocalist Liz McCoy features on Jayl's albums |
"Liz
McCoy is a fantastic local talent," said Jayl. "She's
got an unbelievable voice and I hope that if I've taught her anything
it's that what she has is very rare."
In
fact Jayl spent most of the interview praising and highlighting
all his musical and creative associates who are too numerous to
mention in this article.
Suffice
to say that Jayl's eclectic mixture of mysticism, alternative philosophy
and what he calls the Anti-Bullshit Revolution might not be to everyone's
taste.
But
it's different and it's happening in Gloucestershire and the creative
energy is tangible - oh and the music's great:-)
