As the name implies, Skankt play ska but they are not afraid of a bit of full-on fusion.

On April 4th Cheltenham's ska groove-meisters Skankt released their new album - Perfect Timing - to a room full of devotees at the Fish and Fiddle.

That soft launch will now be follwed up with a full launch party at 11A studios in Gloucester where the album was recorded.

It's not hard to see why the band's following is going from strength to strength as 'Perfect Timing' mixes up a wicked variety of styles in a neat and well-produced package.

The mood moves from Madness-esque off-beatism to smooth-grooved, almost George Benson-like guitar riffs underlined by mellow drum n bass edges.

Add to all this some lovely Latin interludes and real, topical lyrics and you'll find that Perfect Timing is just what it says on the cover.

Skankt's initial gigs included stints supporting veteran skanksters Bad Manners in 1999. Buster Bloodvessel et al were sufficiently impressed and offered the newcomers four more support dates.

They continued to capitalise on subsequent Two-Tone revival tours with The Selecter and Ruffcuts and played out in London before returning to Gloucestershire to build up their grass-roots fan base.

Now they sound set to carry the standard of skate-punk into a new and exciting era.

You can catch them playing in Gloucestershire later this month at the Coleford Music Festival. If they're anywhere near as good live as they are in the studio you'll have a skankin' ball!
