Talk to us and each other

It's that Red Nose time of year again.

You're sure to be seeing lots of scarlet snouts on the streets of Gloucestershire over the coming weeks - and not just because of the freezing weather!

Yes, Comic Relief 2005 is almost upon us, and BBC Gloucestershire is celebrating with a special concert at the Guildhall Arts Centre, Gloucester on Thursday March 3.

Our Comic County will feature established local comedians and musicians alongside amateur joke-tellers recruited during the past few weeks' auditions in Cirencester, Cheltenham and Gloucester.

These raw recruits will be performing alongside folk musician Johnny Coppin, Prince Charles’ Royal Harpist Jemima Philips and local funny men Nik Hill, Nick Page and Keith Morgan.

The event will be hosted by Faye Hatcher and Simon Cartwright from BBC Gloucestershire's Saturday Mid Morning Show. Simon is himself an established comedy impressionist and has appeared on a number of television shows.

The show will be recorded and then broadcast at 7.05pm on Red Nose Day.

"We've got a really diverse line-up for the show - comedy and music, professionals and amateurs," said Faye. "It's an opportunity to have a really good laugh while helping to raise much-needed funds for a worthy cause."

Faye said she was impressed by the standard of joke-telling during the recent auditions, held in local shopping centres.

"We asked adults and children of all ages to come along and tell us their favourite joke, funny story or poem," said Faye. "We found lots of funny people out there - although unfortunately some of the jokes were too rude to use on the night!"
