PC Paula Jones will be setting off on a 10-day trek along the Great Wall of China, the only man-made object visible from space, on May 1.

The once in a lifetime challenge will involve a gruelling, yet stunning 90km journey through some of Asia's most breathtaking scenery, twisting though mountains, villages and valleys.

Trekking for Charity

PC Jones can't wait to get her hiking boots on and will be undertaking the trek on behalf of the National Star College in Cheltenham.

The college provides residential, further education and independence training for young people, aged 16 to 25, who have physical disabilities or acquired brain injuries.

PC Paula Jones

She said: "The objective of this sponsored event is to raise vital funds for the college and its young students with disabilities.

"The challenge is to walk 90km of the Great Wall of China, considered one of the greatest feats of human endeavours on the planet."

A difficult challenge

She has already raised £4,600 through a combination of donations, sponsorship and fundraising activities, and she is well aware of the difficulty of her proposed challenge.

She explained: "As you can imagine this provides a stern challenge for every walker -one that is not to be underestimated, regardless of your fitness level! And although I am looking forward to the challenge, I am certainly not underestimating it.

"The Great Wall star Trek is nine days of living history and an opportunity for adventure and exploration. It is the opportunity of a lifetime and all in aid of an excellent cause."
