Gloucestershire
families of men and women serving in the Gulf are being invited
to a special service at Gloucester Cathedral on Saturday.

| The
Bishop of Gloucester |
There
will be special prayers for everyone involved in the Gulf crisis
at the evensong service on Saturday at 4.30pm.
And
across the county churches are planning vigils and will be saying
special prayers.
The
Rev Graham Osbourne, rural dean of Gloucester and vicar of St Catharine's
Church in the city, said: "We want to offer support to the
close and extended families of people who are serving in the Gulf.
"They
are going to need support and prayers over the coming days and weeks
and it seems right for the cathedral to be the focal point for that
in the city."
Let us pray that this is a brief conflict, that as few people
as possible suffer because of it and that the end result is
a world that is more justly and peacefully governed. |

Bentley, Bishop of Gloucester |
The
cathedral will also be open every day as usual for anyone who wants
to visit for prayer and reflection.
Special
prayers including a Muslim prayer and a Jewish prayer have been
sent out by the Bishop of Gloucester, the Rt Rev David Bentley,
to county parishes for use by churches and individuals during the
crisis.
The
Bishop said: "Let us pray that this is a brief conflict, that
as few people as possible suffer because of it and that the end
result is a world that is more justly and peacefully governed."
Some
parishes are planning to hold prayer vigils while the Gulf conflict
lasts.
