So
you think science is snoozeville? Think again as Cheltenham's second
Festival of Science puts the fizz into physics and the buzz into
biology to provoke new reactions to a subject that many of us hated
at school.
Is
a contraceptive pill for men realistic? Was the Apollo moon landing
a hoax? Do wrinkle creams REALLY reduce the signs of ageing? Does
alternative medicine really work? Can different foods really affect
the way you feel?
 |
| The
beauty industry is put under the microscope |
Those
are just some of the questions under discussion in five fascinating
days during which some of the UK's most eminent scientists will
unravel the technological and biological mysteries that we all REALLY
want to know about - the topics teachers never told at school!
Where
else could you find out if an invisibility cloak could really exist,
the best way to dunk a doughnut or why every beer tastes unique?
The
festival looks at a host of light-hearted and fun topics over the
weekend aimed at adults, families and children - and also
features more free events than ever before.

Why
does time really does fly when we're having fun and drag on Monday
mornings? Sex, sport, meditation and pain are explored in Moments
of Ecstasy - an explanation of the chemical and physiological factors
involved in our brains' conception of time.
Time
and space are major themes for the festival, but all sorts of subjects
under the sun are touched upon, from why teenagers turn moody to
whether organic food is really better for us or if 'unlucky' people
can change their fortunes.

| Work
up a thirst by exploring the science of beer-making |
Each
of the sexes is catered for with discussions on both the science
of beer and the science of beauty.
And
could an invisibility cloak really exist? The science of Harry Potter
is put under the microscope in one of several fun events for youngsters.
Inspirational
inventor Trevor Baylis, Robot Wars judge Noel Sharkey, and the director
of the BBC's Walking With Cavemen series join some of the UK's most
eminent scientists to discover the surprising and explore the controversial.
Discover
Zone is a free interactive centre where festival-goers can find
out the fun side of science for themselves with robots, computers
and gizmos galore.
