Why not share it with us here as we aim to boost tourism by compiling a list of the things that make Gloucestershire special. ![]() Elaine Keasley loves the Barnwood Park & Arboretum "We're looking for 101 facts about the county - places to visit, things to see - just stuff that people don't know is here that we can tell others about" says Sam Williams from Gloucestershire County Council.
In a bid to re-ignite the passion for local culture, Sam is leading a project to compile a list of the not-to-be-missed things that make Gloucestershire special. "There's some big places that have had a lot of attention in the past, but there's a lot of smaller places out there in our very rural areas. "Some amazing pubs, amazing sights, even amazing roads that might be worth walking down because the view from there is like nothing else on earth." 'Terrific view'Paul Bodkin, 58, from the Forest of Dean, called BBC Radio Gloucestershire to nominate the view from the White Hart Inn at Broadoak. "I just think it has the best view on the River Severn. You've got such a wonderful wide river, a terrific view of Newnham Church and down to the left you've got Westbury Church. "I've been living down here for about seven years now; born and bred in Gloucester and wish I'd moved down sooner." Paul suggested the view on the BBC Radio Gloucestershire afternoon show (weekdays from 3pm) and presenter David Smith took the opportunity to meet up with him to share the experience. Elaine Keasley, 54, did the same. She made contact with David to nominate something very close to home and close to her heart - Barnwood Park and Arboretum. "It's so handy for town and then you come into the park and there's so much here for children and adults. "It's like being in the countryside. Immediately you have birds and lots of wildlife and it's just wonderful to have that so close to the city centre." ![]() Tewkesbury Abbey (Photo: Robert Bromberg) Suggestions so far:1.
