My Festival: Jan, Maggie & Gill

We want to share YOUR Gold Cup experience this year. Meet three ladies who'll be there, all members of Gloucestershire's Women's Institute - the official partner for Ladies Day at the 2009 National Hunt Festival in Cheltenham.

Jan, Maggie and Gill from Woodmancote - three members of the Women's Institute in Gloucestershire

Jan, Maggie and Gill from Woodmancote

Have you been racing before?

Maggie: "I've not actually been to Gold Cup day other than on the perimeter of the Racecourse but yes I've been racing and thoroughly enjoyed it."

So you're familiar with the Cheltenham Festival and the ambiance?

Gill: "It's absolutely electric in Cheltenham during race week"

Jan: "Only from the bus as it goes past. I've always been working so I couldn't get to the races."

What's the magic of Cheltenham?

Gill: "It's very electric. There's a lot of people there and it's lots of fun."

What will you be wearing?

Maggie: "I have got an outfit that I've got in mind."

Jan: "...and I have a tomato coat! It's just a bright orange coat, mohair, long and quite warm."

Gill: "It is Ladies Day so I think I will wear a hat."

Have you ever placed a bet before?

Jan: "I used to work in a betting office a long long time ago so I have some idea. It runs in the family - my mother and father used to put a bet on every day of the week at the local bookies. When my father reached his limit he would mother just kept going. I'm very careful with my money!"

Gill: "I have placed bets before and it's a lot of fun to do it around the actual racecourse. I usually go by the name of the horse."

Share the excitement with Gill, Jan and Maggie, live on BBC Radio Gloucestershire from 7am on Ladies Day - Thursday 12 March 2009.
