Introducing...Which Way Up

They're an unsigned four piece from Gloucestershire who love their classic rock anthems and, as reviewer Stephen Morris has written, have the power to "rock your block off - whether you like it or not!".

Which Way Up

The band

Russ Grimmett: Vocals, Guitar
Stu Hall: Guitar
Jim Adkins: Bass
Martin Edmunds: Drums

The profile

A modern British Rock band, with hard hitting riffs, melodic big ballads and the aim of pleasing audiences with their particular brand of commercial rock. Their roots? Influenced by traditional rock bands such as Bon Jovi, Van Halen, Guns and Roses, Kiss and the like.

The beginning

Russ: "It was Stu getting in contact with me over MusoFinder about creating an Iron Maiden tribute band!"

Stu: At the time we were both doing different things. I was in a band who I was getting a little bit sick of. I was writing a lot of tunes but it wasn't really happening so I thought well let's just get out there, play some gigs and we'll just do an Iron Maiden tribute - something I thought would be really popular. We needed a singer, so I got in touch with Russ. As it turned out, he had some songs, I had some songs and we just threw them together."

...and the other two members?

Russ: "I knew Jim from another local band and I managed to steal him from there. My cousin was drumming for us originally but if we got anywhere with the fame and fortune he didn't want any of that - bizarrely - so we searched for someone else and Martin came along."

The sound

Russ: "We aim for unique but raw music with flair."

Stu: "Unique is a hard sell nowaways. We like to conform but certainly on the live shows we like to let it go a bit."

Russ: "We get a lot of people saying that this is what the world's missing at the moment - back to the eighties and all that. We go for the power, the melody and even the power ballads of which I think there's a lot missing at the moment. Just pure strength in the song really and something that people can sing to".

The future

Russ: "Five years hopefully we'll be on our third platinum album! Next year we just want to get our name out as much as we can. Everyone wants fame or fortune but you can only get out as much as you put in. I just want to entertain the world with our music...that's all I want to do. I want to see people dance and sing along to music that we've come up with - that's the biggest kick you can have."
